⚠️ Key numbers to remember

  • Residence Visa expired: AED 50/day — no cap
  • Emirates ID expired: AED 20/day — max AED 1,000
  • Medical Insurance / Passport: No daily fine

Residence Visa Fines

When a domestic worker's UAE residence visa expires, the sponsor (employer) is liable for an overstay fine of AED 50 per day. Unlike Emirates ID fines, there is no maximum cap on residence visa overstay fines. A visa expired for one year would accumulate a fine of over AED 18,250.

Residence visas for domestic workers are typically valid for 1–2 years depending on the sponsor's visa type. UAE nationals and Golden Visa holders can sponsor for 2 years; regular residents sponsor for 1 year.

Emirates ID Fines

An expired Emirates ID attracts a fine of AED 20 per day, with a maximum cap of AED 1,000 (equivalent to 50 days). This cap is set by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). Once the AED 1,000 cap is reached, no additional daily fines accumulate, but the ID must still be renewed.

Common mistake: Some online sources incorrectly state the Emirates ID fine has no cap. The AED 1,000 maximum is confirmed by ICP.gov.ae. ManzilZen applies this cap in all fine calculations.

Documents With No Daily Fine

The following documents do not attract daily fines when expired, but their expiry will block visa renewal:

  • Passport — no fine, but visa renewal is blocked if worker's passport is expired
  • Medical Insurance — mandatory under UAE domestic worker law but no per-day fine
  • Work Permit — renewed alongside residence visa
  • Medical Fitness Certificate — required for initial visa and renewal

How to Avoid Fines

The most effective way to avoid domestic worker fines is to start the renewal process at least 30 days before expiry. This allows enough time for medical tests, Emirates ID renewal, and residence visa stamping without incurring penalties.
